Cove was Carbon Neutral for 2019
No matter how hard we try we will always contribute to the creation of carbon in our atmosphere. It is a fact of life. The growth of food, driving cars, building buildings and roads, the list goes on and on. Everyone at Cove is concerned about the footprint we leave behind during our lives and the operation of our business. We do everything we can to reduce our carbon and once we have reached our limitations we looked for ways to remove the carbon we create to be carbon neutral.
In 2019 Cove undertook to become Climate Smart Certified. We succeeded in meeting the requirements to call ourselves a Climate Smart company. During that process we measured our GHG emissions and explored ways to become carbon neutral. One of those ways is buying carbon offsets.
Carbon offsets are a form of trade. When you buy an offset, you fund projects that reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. In other words you direct money to a project that reduces more carbon that it creates and you are allocated the excess for a fee. If we continually measure our GHG’s and purchase offsets we become carbon neutral. The fees ultimately drive the creation of new projects that continue the process.
Here are some of the key metrics that we measured:
The ultimate aim in the offset world is for everyone to purchase enough carbon offsets to neutralize all the carbon that is created. This is an admirable goal but….I’m not sure that everyone is a believer. Cove is proud to have offset 21.56 tonnes of carbon for 2019. We look forward to continuing to do so going forward.
